PETROL prices remain as there were last week as we head into the bank holiday weekend.

The cost of filling your tank has come down quite substantially across Cheshire since hitting a soaring high at the end of June.

However, after the wholesale cost of fuel was slashed, those prices have been passed on to people using forecourts in recent weeks.

Although unleaded pump prices have changed little in the past seven days, diesel has seen a slight cut across our patch.

The picture nationally is that prices continue to be lowered, with this week’s average unleaded price now 171p per litre – that’s 3p per litre cheaper than last week.

That price is roughly the same as what consumers were having to pay at the end of May.

To put all of these prices into context, at the beginning of this year, the average cost to fill up with unleaded was 145p per litre and 148.8p per litre for diesel.

Here are the all-important prices for this week, with the cheapest five for both unleaded and diesel (last week’s prices are in brackets)
