A MAN has been jailed after he resisted arrest for trying to defraud Vodafone over mobile phone contracts.
On July 27, Fabio Coelho tried to obtain two mobile phone contracts from the Vodafone store in Grove Street, Wilmslow, by providing false details.
Then, while being arrested, the 36-year-old obstructed a police officer in the course of their duty.
Coelho, of Goodchild Road, Hackney in London, pleaded guilty to the offences on July 27 and was sentenced in his absence at Chester Magistrates Court the following day.
Taking his guilty pleas into account, magistrates jailed him for 10 weeks.
The court said Coelho was put behind bars immediately because ‘the offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified’.
Magistrates jailed him because of his ‘offending whilst on licence and poor antecedent history'.
Coelho was also ordered to pay £154 victim surcharge in full by October 31.
