HUNDREDS of people are expected to descend on a cricket club as it hosts a weekend-long anniversary event.
Over Peover Cricket Club is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is inviting families to join in the celebrations.
On Friday, July 8, cricketing luminaries including West Indies opening batsman Sir Gordon Greenidge and former Test Match Special broadcaster Henry Blofeld will be coming to the Well Bank Lane club.
The club will be taking on the Lashings World XI with spectators able to enjoy an afternoon of cricket with a BBQ and ice creams.
Gates open at 3.30pm with some junior coaching taking place before the match starts at 4.30pm.
On the Saturday there will be a fun day at the club before a Woman's Softball Festival takes place on the Sunday.
The festival takes places from 2pm with teams of eight competing. Team entry is £20 and includes a bottle of fizz. A BBQ and bar will be running throughout the afternoon.
In its anniversary year, the club is fundraising towards replacing its 70-year-old clubhouse. So far £70,000 has been riased towards a target of £100,000.
