THREE junctions of the M6 were closed for more than 12 hours on Good Friday (April 15).
Although slightly north of Cheshire, the incident resulted in the southbound carriageway of the motorway closing between junctions 26 and 23.
The incident happened at around 4am when the lorry left the carriageway and overturned on a grass verge between junction 24 and 23.
Initially, the motorway was only closed between those two junctions to allow for recovery, however, because of the severe delays being caused, National Highways extended the closure between junctions 26 and 23.
A spokesman for National Highways said: "All emergency services have been in attendance, and specialist recovery is now on scene to recover the vehicle.
"This is likely to take some time due to the location the vehicle has come to rest.
"This closure is also closing the southbound entry to the M6 at J25."
National Highways managed to right the lorry at lunchtime and although it was safely moved off the motorway, the crash caused around 100 metres of infastructure damage.
