FOR many of us, Friday night is the designated go-to evening for a fish and chip supper.
And with Good Friday arguably one of the most popular days of the year to partake in the British classic, we have chosen five of the mosty popular chippies in the area.
- Hooked on the Heath, Northwich Road, Knutsford
Although a relative newcomer to the fish and chips game, this chippy has already scooped plenty of awards and admirers.
There are also plenty of five-star reviews on Trip Advisor, with one customer saying, "It's a simple meal, fish and chips, but many takeways demonstrate it is not easy to get it right.
"This place got it right for us today and I thanked them for a cracking lunch."
2. Big Fish, Church Street, Wilmslow
With a Google rating of 4.5, this chippy is one of the best around, with one reviewer commenting, "Best chippy in Wilmslow, and they give you proper portions, unlike some of the other swanky ones in Knutsford and Alderley Edge."
3. Foster's Fish & Chips, Chorley Hall Lane, Alderley Edge
A simple and smart restaurant and takeaway, part of a small chain, with sustainability in mind.
It's another chippy which scores highly with punters, claiming a 4.6 rating on Google.
One reviewer said: "Wow wow wow what a gorgeous chip shop. Came because of the good reviews and they were not wrong.
"The chips are big and juicy, then mushy peas were spot on and the sausage was also very nice. Good portions, clean shop and friendly staff. 10/10"
4. London Road Fish Bar, Holmes Chapel
Another scoring highly on Google with a rating of 4.6 with plenty of great reviews, "Food is great, hot. Staff efficient. Good on site parking. Specials good value. Would recommend to all."
Another said: "We had a quiz night and fish and chip supper at our village hall last night. Mario and staff did us about 100 portions all I can say is wow wow wow."
5. The Codfather, Manchester Road, Northwich
This award-winning chippy regularly features as one of the best in the whole country.
They also specialise in gluten-free fish and chips, which gives them even more of an edge over their rivals.
As one five-star reviewer said: "If you want the best fish and chips in Mid Cheshire this is the place to visit."
