A BANK in Knutsford is set to shut amid 60 branch closures across the UK this year.
Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches face the axe this year as more and more customers turn to online banking.
Lloyds Bank in Knutsford is among 24 Lloyds Bank sites set to close.
The branch on Princess Street is due to shut on July 6.
Altogether, 19 Bank of Scotland branches and 17 Halifax branches across the country will be closing.
Parent company Lloyds Banking Group said the decision was made as the number of customers using online banking has reached an all-time high this year.
Lloyds says it now has 18.6 million regular online banking customers and more than 15 million mobile app users.
These have increased 12 per cent and 17 per cent respectively over the past two years.
Vim Maru, group retail director of Lloyds Banking Group, said: “Just like many other high street businesses, fewer customers are choosing to visit our branches.
“Our branch network is an important way for us to support our customers, but we need to adapt to the significant growth in customers choosing to do most of their everyday banking online.”
Lloyds has not confirmed how many members of staff will be affected by the closures.
A spokesman added: “We aim to support all colleagues impacted, who want to remain with the group, with a move to a new role.”
