SUPER fundraiser Brian Foden has reached his target of £100,000.
He has run a captain’s charity golf day – affectionately known as Fodders' Charity Event – at Alderley Edge Golf Club for 25 years.
The latest charity gathering featured 60 golfers taking part in a successful day of golf, a meal and a chance for further fundraising in the evening's auction.
He highlighted in an emotional speech the motivation behind running the first event.
“I started the event in June 1996 after my mother died that March," he said.
"She had used the ‘mast scanner’ at Macclesfield Hospital and we wanted to raise funds in her memory.
"I was only going to organise the one event, but everybody told me that I should carry on with this fundraising for different charities. And so the golf event carried on for the next 25 years!"
A number of worthy causes have benefitted.
“Over the years we have raised money for at least 15 charities and finished in 2021 by supporting this year’s captain’s charity,Stockport MIND," he said.
"At the latest one – my final event – we raised a fantastic £5,200 which took us to our final total of £100,840, exceeding the original target of 100K.
“I have valued the fantastic and generous support from past captains, individuals, members and companies who have been instrumental in our success.
“So, to everybody over the 25 years who played, helped, supported and donated prizes I send my thanks. Also to Alderley Edge Golf Club and all the staff for hosting the golf and the after-golf functions in the clubhouse.
"Finally, special thanks to my family – Angela, Jordan and Luke – for supporting the ‘Old Man’.”
