INSULATE Britain protesters caused traffic chaos by blocking a road by Manchester Airport on Tuesday (November 2).
The protesters blocked Wilmslow Road (A538), with traffic being ground to a halt by junction 6 of the busy motorway.
Police were on the scene just after 9am this morning.
Images released from the scene show the individuals sat in the centre of the road, holding Insulate Britain banners, close to the airport's Holiday Inn hotel.
Several of the protesters appear to have glued their hands to the road, with police officers on the scene trying their best to minimise disruption.
Greater Manchester Police provided an update in a tweet: "We're currently responding to a protest on Wilmslow Road (A538), close to Manchester Airport.
"We're working at the scene to minimise disruption and we'll provide updates in due course.
"Delays are expected and we ask people travelling to avoid the area if possible."
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said: "We are aware of protestors gathered on land close to Manchester Airport, which is being handled by Greater Manchester Police.
"There is no impact on our operations but those planning to travel to the airport should take account of this ahead of their journey.
"Anyone with further enquiries should contact the police or Highways England directly."

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has condemned the protesters in a tweet.
"I can’t see how this type of protest does anything other than alienate people from the climate cause.
"Have been reassured @gmpolice are working to get things moving as soon as possible."
