Trick or treat? Animals at Chester Zoo have been enjoying a pumpkin party as the zoo gets into the festive mood ahead of Halloween this weekend. 

Keepers have had to get imaginative, giving different pumpkin treats to make sure there is a spooky treat for all creatures great and small. 

Carved pumpkins were drenched in fish blood for the Komodo dragon and lemurs enjoyed tasty fruit snacks put inside the pumpkins.

Holes were cut inside the pumpkins for snakes to slither through and the sun bears can be seen divulging the Halloween delicacy.

According to conservationists at the zoo, the treats give the animals enrichment and encourage them to forage for food in exciting ways.

Chester Zoo is home to almost 20,000 animals and more than 500 different species, many of which are endangered in the wild.

This winter Chester Zoo is also hosting its annual Lantern Festival, where the zoo will be transformed into a weekend full of sparkle and enchanting animals.

The event runs in the evening, giving guests the chance to see Chester Zoo in a whole new light. 

Lanterns will adorn the zoo alongside Christmas scenes and festive characters, perfect for a family night out. 

The festival is running from Friday November 23 to Sunday December 23 on selected dates.
