LAUGHTER and chatter filled the streets as a taste of the continent came to Knutsford.

Visitors could be forgiven for thinking they'd stepped into France, Italy or Spain as trestle tables laden with sumptuous dishes created a fiesta atmosphere.

Families and friends were encouraged to enjoy food and drink outside to give restaurants, pubs and cafes a boost after the pandemic.

Residents hailed the pioneering trial on Saturday and Sunday a huge success and say they can't wait for more chances to eat outdoors.

King Street was closed to traffic celebrate the town's hospitality industry and give local eateries a chance to recoup trade lost during lockdown.

Another alfresco dining event is being held on Minshull Street this Saturday, September 18.

Sandra Curties, Knutsford Town Council town centre and marketing officer, said: “We are very pleased with the positive response from the public with the first King Street alfresco dining evenings.

"We are currently getting feedback from the businesses who took part and will also need to measure the impact it had on the hospitality venues outside the road closure too as well as town centre residents."

Ryan Steele said: "Love it. That's what Knutsford is about. Looks amazing."

Melissa Thirlaway added: "What a brilliant idea. Very European, modern times. I really hope people use the facilities and it happens on a weekly basis.

Cllr James McCulloch said: "Absolutely brilliant evening and great to see so many out.

"Knutsford Town Council listened to what our residents wanted to happen in the town centre and it's been great to hear the wonderful feedback."

Sophie Roberts, of Project 53, said: "We are delighted to take part in Minshull Street's first alfresco dining event.

"We look forward to greeting customers new and old.

"Good luck to our neighbours, Cafe on the Corner and La Casa Del Habano too.

Diners are urged to contact Project 53, La Casa del Habano or Cafe on the Corner to see whether they need to book a table in advance.

The full length of Minshull Street will be closed on Saturday, September 18 from 5.30pm to 11pm.
