POLICE in Widnes have fined two women for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules – after they were spotted fighting in the street.
The fines were two of six handed out in the town yesterday, Saturday, to residents flouting Covid-19 restrictions.
The females were fined in relation to a children’s party that was held involving people from different households.
Police became aware of the party when speaking to the women about the fight.
Two other women and two men were also fined in relation to a separate incident, where all were from separate households but met for a gathering at a flat.
In a statement, Widnes Police said: “We issued fines to six people in Widnes yesterday (Saturday) for blatant breaches of lockdown regulations.
“We don’t want to stop anyone from enjoying themselves, but we all need to stick to the rules and help to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
“We will always engage, explain and encourage people to follow the regulations, but sometimes enforcement action is necessary.
“Thankfully, the vast majority of residents are sticking to the rules and we urge you to continue to do so.”
