EDEL Owen from Knutsford, CTO at Barclays UK Ventures, is a finalist in the 2019 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards.
Edel is a finalist in the Team Leader category. This is awarded to a woman whose team leadership has greatly contributed to the organisation’s success.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on March 6.
Edel head’s up a team of 40 Architects who are responsible for the retail bank’s technology platforms that support current and savings accounts, debit cards, insurance, payments and customer information.
She joined Barclays Technology Centre more than 25 years ago on the graduate scheme, has been with Barclays ever since and has risen to director level whilst rising a family.
Edel has designed and delivered industry-leading technical solutions for the bank.
Throughout her technology career at Barclays, Edel has planned, managed and directed the solutions development for many large, complex, varied and technically challenging changes, contributing at every stage from inception through to delivery.
Taking place to celebrate International Women’s Day, the awards are a timely reminder that only 15 per cent of people working in STEM roles in the UK are female and just five per cent of leadership positions in the tech industry are held by women.
The 2019 awards programme’s rally cry is ‘Achieve, Elevate and Inspire’, and this year the awards shine the spotlight on 50 of the most talented individuals from the tech industry, from the UK and internationally.
