ACTRESS Mary Fogg will be seeking to bring an air of darkness and supernatural energy to her role in a production of The Bard’s most famous tragedy.

The mother-of-two from Mobberley recently landed the eerie role of a ‘Weird Sister’ in Daniel Taylor Productions’ 14-show run of Macbeth, which plays from Thursday, March 7 at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool.

Set in the aftermath of a ruinous civil war in Scotland, the powerful and exhilarating new production of Macbeth explores the damaging psychological effects of war, betrayal and destructive political ambition by those who seek power for its own sake.

Mary, who hails from north Wales and has lived in Mobberley for 17 years, began her early training with the renowned Clwyd Youth Theatre in Mold, where she says she developed her great love of the theatre.

She said: “We were taught by some of the industry’s best, which culminated in performing at Theatr Clwyd in Mold, which with it instilled a strong discipline and understanding of the industry from an early age.”

Mary then went on to train at the Coventry Centre for the Performing Arts in partnership with Coventry University.

She said: “This training was a true eye-opener into the world of the arts.

“As well as the formal ‘in-class’ training, we regularly collaborated with people working in the industry, including Bafta-winning writer and director Debbie Isitt, Physical Theatre-inspired company Volcano, Rambert Dance Company, The Welsh National Opera, Mike Alfreds, one of the theatre’s greatest directors, and even Larry Grayson came in to work with us.”

Mary then went on to be offered a highly-coveted one-year postgraduate place at The Oxford School of Drama, but her path took a different route when she moved abroad temporarily.

After a break from the creative arts, bringing up a family and pursuing other careers, Mary recently decided to throw herself back into following her dreams.

She said: “I feel I’m at an empowering time of life, and motivated and determined to not lose sight of what sets my soul on fire.

“I attended workshops and classes to fine tune my skill set, and soon signed with a vibrant acting agent, Michelle Blair Management.

“I’m also very proactive; it’s very easy to sit by the phone and wait for your agent to ring, but this is not an easy industry to be in at all.”

Mary, who is also a keen writer, is enthused enough to want to produce and direct her own work, and is working on various projects.

She said: “You really have to create your own luck a lot of the time.”

That is exactly what Mary, who recently made an appearance on ITV’s Emmerdale, is doing.

Daniel Taylor, who as well as directing is also producing Macbeth, was already someone on Mary’s list of people she wanted to work with.

She said: “As soon as I heard he was bringing ‘The Scottish Play’ to the stage I put myself forward and sent in a tape.

“He is a people person, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching him play Sammy Johnstone in the smash-hit musical Blood Brothers, which he is touring in.

“Danny has a great energy on stage and a watchable edginess which I feel I have, so I’m sure we’ll work well together.

“I’ll be up there among other very worthy well-established actors, some of who also hail from Blood Brothers, and I’m extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity to share the stage with them - I must remember to not say the name of the play out loud!”

You can see Mary perform in Macbeth from March 7 to 16 at the Epstein Theatre. Tickets start at £16, and are available from epsteinliverpool.co.uk/events/macbeth/
