THE Evans Theatre at Wilmslow is playing host to a tap dancing spectacular next month.
The next production from award-winning TEMPO (The Edge Musical Performing Organisation) will be 42nd Street, the all-singing, tap dancing, glitzy spectacular which tells the story of Peggy Sawyer and her rise in a 1930s Broadway show from the chorus line to leading lady.
The show will be at the Evans Theatre from March 5 to 9.
TEMPO are keen to continue with the success of last year’s sell-out show CATS, for which they won four Association of Community Theatre awards, and three National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards.
Chairman Alison Bisset said: “42nd Street is such great show for our company of talented young performers to be involved in.
“It is a much more traditional and different show from last year, full of big dance numbers, well-known songs and glamorous costumes.
“All our cast have embraced with gusto and mastered the sometimes-challenging tap-dancing numbers, and can’t wait to perform for our audiences.”
First performed more than 40 years ago, 42nd Street has just finished a highly successfully run at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane.
Set in 1930s American during the Great Depression, it is a classic song and dance musical, telling of the dreams of Broadway and featuring the familiar songs ‘We’re in the Money’, ‘Lullaby of Broadway’, ‘Dames’ and of course ‘42nd Street’.
42nd Street will be at the Evans Theatre at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. Performances are at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday, March 9 at 2.30pm. For more information and tickets go to tempotheatre.com or facebook.com/tempoyouthmt, or call 07969 176148.
