FIREFIGHTERS had to use breathing apparatus to tackle a car fire on the new A556 link road last night.
A fire engine from Knutsford arrived at the scene just after 8.30pm on Thursday, June 1, to find the Mercedes C-Class 'well alight' on the hard shoulder.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Fire crews were called to a car fire on the hard shoulder of the new bypass on Chester Road, Knutsford.
"A Mercedes C-Class was well alight on arrival and crews, wearing one breathing apparatus, used a hose reel jet to put out the fire."
Cheshire Police also attended the incident to manage traffic.
