A FITNESS group with a difference has celebrated its first year anniversary in Goostrey with a dazzling acrobatic performance.
Polegym a pole dancing, aerial and silks group run by 35-year-old Alex Williams from Holmes Chapel, was set up 12 months ago at Goostrey Home and Leisure.
With years of experience as a dance instructor, Alex decided to try her hand at pole dancing fitness and trained to become a teacher five years before opening her own gym.
The group, which has a number of dedicated members, celebrated with a show of more than 70 spectators and a special performance from Jess Leanne Norris, Miss Pole UK, the nation’s pole dancing champion.
“The performance went down a storm,” said Alex. “I was teaching for four years and I used to have a room in different places but then I had enough girls interested to realise it was time to set up the studio- and we have had a great first year.
“We threw a party for all our friends and family to show what we could do on the pole, aerial and silks.”
One of the performers, Yvonne Longley a Slimming World consultant told the Guardian that she has a lot to thank Alex for with her classes.
“The pole classes have massively boosted my confidence and one of my Slimming World customers has joined and it has really helped her feel more confident too.”
