THE Guardian shines the spotlight on the three candidates taking on George Osborne in the 2015 General Election.
Gareth Wilson - Liberal Democrat
"My name is Gareth Wilson and I’m not a politician. I haven’t been to public school, I didn’t study politics at Oxford and I’ve never worked in politics. In fact this is my first time standing for any political position at all.
"Despite these impediments, in fact because of them I would make a great MP for Tatton. Unlike the other candidates I live in Mobberley, went to school at Altrincham Grammar and have lived in and around the area for most of my life.
"With two young children, a wife with a long term health condition and elderly in-laws, I know the issues local people are facing as I use the same services every day. In the last three years I’ve led local campaigns against overdevelopment of Mobberley village, parking charges at Knutsford Hospital and the downgrading of Knutsford Fire Station.
"If you want to change politics you need to change the people in Parliament, please consider voting for someone who will put the needs of Knutsford people first, not what’s going on at Westminster."
Tina-Louise Rothery – Green Party
"The problems with our current situation appear less to do with the economy and far more to do with the way that economy is managed and whom it does - and doesn’t - benefit.
"Corporate interests have an unhealthy influence on decisions made in Westminster. Look at the planned spending on huge projects like HS2 instead of improvements to existing rail - including the Mid-Cheshire line - that would bring greater benefit to the local population; or the way they insist on pursuing short-term, risky energy solutions that will bring no benefits on prices or security for UK residents.
"The priorities, concerns and challenges in our everyday lives are not reflected in the policies of the current government and haven’t been for as long as I can remember.
"Unlike the vast majority of those in politics who claim to represent the residents of the UK, I do not come from a background that has groomed me for the government we know today – and I believe this to be a distinct advantage."
David Pinto-Duschinsky – Labour Party
“I am honoured to have been chosen to be Labour’s candidate at the next election.”
"George Osborne has presided over the longest recession in living memory and the biggest fall in real wages since the 1870’s. Millions have paid the price of his failed policies. And Tatton has not been immune.
"Shops have shut, jobs have gone and local services have been squeezed. I’m looking forward to holding him to account and campaigning on the issues that matter to local people-affordable housing, protecting the local NHS, schools and bringing more good jobs to the constituency.”
