THIS week The Knutsfordian has come over all Gilbert & Sullivan as he feels very Nanki-Poo.
Connoisseurs of the genre will know Nanki-Poo is the son of The Mikado, from whom the comic opera takes its name.
Much like The Knutsfordian, the wandering minstrel travels in disguise to pursue his beloved Yum Yum. In truth, The Knutsfordian only has eyes and wallet for the delicious Miss Pole. But The Knutsfordian digresses.
In his Wandering Minstrel song, Nanki sings of being a thing of ‘shreds and patches, of ballads, songs and snatches, and dreamy lullaby’.
The ‘shreds and patches’ for this week goes to The Knutsfordian’s great chum, our esteemed Cheshire East Council leader Clr Mike Jones who this week took to twitter. His second tweet (from @ClrMichaelJones account) said: ‘Am very disappointed over Planning Inspector’s comments on our five-year housing supply.
We certainly intend to aggressively challenge this!’ Mindful of Star Trek’s impact on the use/abuse of the split infinitive, The Knutsfordian feels Clr Jones needs to split himself from his assertions about this oft claimed five years losing supply or he will be consigned to an infinity of oblivion in party politics.
The tweet came about as the Planning Inspectorate ruled, yet again, that despite Clr Jones’ repeated claims, the borough does not have a five-year housing supply.
The Knutsfordian read this was stated in a decision overturning CEC’s refusal of planning permission for a development of 94 homes in Sandbach.
CEC’s ‘policy’ has again been shredded by the Inspectorate as Clr Jones desperately tries to patch it.
PS The Knutsfordian, once a fine tenor, now more of a comic baritone Ko-Ko (The Mikado's Lord High Executioner), has been singing ‘ballads, songs and snatches’ as he burst into a chorus of that Britney classic, ‘Oops!... I did it again’, as Cheshire East made an enormous mistake in announcing it was forming Cheshire East Ltd to act as a holding company for its other new companies designed to do who knows what and why, but promising thousands of pounds of savings.
In a move worthy of a reality TV stunt, some chap from Wilmslow beat the council to register the name with Companies House leaving CEC scrabbling round to find a new name.
That name is Cheshire East Residents First Ltd. The Knutsfordian can only hope this comes true.
PPS Turning to Nanki-Poo's ‘dreamy lullaby’, The Knutsfordian trusts parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles will enjoy wearing out their young charges on Saturday as the town's retailers stage the ‘Bunny Hop’. Rumour has it the ever-fragrant Peter from Pop Perfumery will be dressed as a giant rabbit.
Sweet dreams children.
