THE Knutsfordian is deeply unimpressed with Knutsford Town Council’s clerkgate shambles as revealed in last week’s Knutsford Guardian.
A complaint over a £36 phone bill has developed into a legal wrangle with its very own £1,000 budget.
Why have our representatives allowed this situation to end up in the hands of a Manchester firm of solicitors?
Judging by what we, the taxpayers, are allowed to know, this appears to be a simple case of a misunderstanding.
n It has been brought to The Knutsfordian’s attention that a number of town centre-living Knutsfordians were caught out by the closure of King Street for three hours last Thursday as they had not been informed about the plans.
Knutsfordians living on King Street and Princess Street are used to closures for the Artisan Markets, May Day, the Lions Fair etc, and accept any inconvenience as part of living in the heart of our lively little town as long as they know about them in advance.
The Knutsfordian was however concerned about tweets he read from the Knutsford Community First Responders asking Cheshire East Highways and Knutsford Town Council to add them to the list circulated about road closures so they can inform their ambulance responders.
Surely they should be informed as a priority?
I see that Clr Andrew Malloy has reminded his impressive following on Twitter of this weekend’s road closures affecting Princess Street, Canute Place and Tatton Street as Knutsford celebrates its Christmas market and lights switch-on.
n PS Why did Knutsford Town Council exclude the press and public from listening to the debate on taking over responsibility (as in paying for) the cost of CCTV in the town?
Cheshire East Council has decreed it will no longer pay for CCTV and is ‘offloading’ the cost to town councils across the borough.
Many of those councils have been vocal in their opposition to this extra cost being foisted on their electorate.
So why is KTC excluding its electorate?
