A MILLINGTON children’s charity has celebrated new arrivals in the form of four baby budgies.

The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust has homed the new additions in its new aviary, and the foursome are enjoying their luxury accommodation and the attention of the children visiting the charity for holidays.

The aviary was built at the end of last year thanks to the support of HSBC, which provided funding for the project and the manpower to construct it. The aviary houses the charity’s 100 plus budgies, who are loving their new home which the children can enter and enjoy.

Fundraiser Helen Crowther said: “This is a fantastic new activity for the children who get so much from spending time with animals.

“The aviary is a great extension of our sensory programme, which includes a sensory room and a sensory garden. “The colourful, noisy, moving budgies provide so much excitement for the children, who take great delight in getting so close to these cute and quirky creatures.

“We really can’t thank HSBC enough for what they’ve done for us, and the children – they really are making a huge difference.”

As well as budgies the charity has also introduced quails and a golden pheasant to the aviary, which gives smaller children, or those in wheelchairs, even more creatures at their height to observe and interact with.

Michelle Carberry from HSBC said: “Supporting our local community is extremely important to us, and we were delighted to fund such a worthwhile project.

“To see the absolute joy on the faces of the children when they visit the aviary is extremely rewarding, and we are keen to provide a lasting impact, through the ongoing voluntary work undertaken by our employees.”
