POLICE in Knutsford are warning vehicle owners to be extra vigilant and security conscious in the wake of a rise in vehicle crime in recent weeks.

Officers in Knutsford have seen an increase in incidents between January 29 and February 10, with the majority of thefts happening in out of town pub car parks and lay-bys.

During this period there have been 10 thefts. Vehicles were targeted after items such as sat navs, laptops and handbags were left on display. In some cases number plates have also been taken.

Items have also been taken from cars parked on Knutsford driveways, with all the incidents happening between 6pm and 10.30pm.

PC Andy Baker, from Knutsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, urged residents to keep an eye out.

“Over the past couple of weeks local officers have noticed an increase in the number of vehicles broken into in the area,” he said.

“As a result we want to remind local residents and visitors to be extra vigilant and security conscious where their cars are concerned.

“Please ensure your vehicles are locked and secured and remove valuables from them.”

PC Baker said: “Where possible try to park near lighting and security cameras, but the most important thing to do is to make sure there is nothing of value left on show in your car before you leave it unattended.”

If you see anything suspicious please report it to Cheshire Police by dialling 101, or in case of an emergency 999.
