A KNUTSFORD man who completed a 200 mile cycle ride with colleagues has donated £20,000 to charity.

Julian Urry made the donation to Macmillan Cancer Support, after raising the cash through a combination of the cycle ride, and a prize draw at his company’s annual conference.

Julian, 53, who is the managing director of Bolton-based discount retailer, Cash Generator, headed up a team of five for the charity bike ride, departing from Stoke and arriving at the Cash Generator store in Peckham.

It is the second year Cash Generator has raised money for Macmillan, a charity Julian holds in high regard due to the care his late mother-in-law, Margaret Barber, received from the Macmillan nurses at Crewe’s Leighton Hospital and at her home in Hartford, Northwich.

Julian said: “I was overwhelmed by the support my mother-in-law Margaret received from Macmillan during her battle with pancreatic cancer. Their dedication, commitment and kindness inspired me to do something so that we could make a sizable donation.

“The 200 mile cycle was well supported by Cash Generator employees and in particular our franchisees, many of whom donated very generously.

“I am thrilled to have raised £20,000 for Macmillan, a truly worthy cause.”

Rose Tipton, fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are extremely grateful to Cash Generator for their generous donation of £20,000.

“It is very rare to receive a cheque for such a substantial amount and we are please to say that the money will give many people in the area a ‘good day’.”
