DOZENS of bakers competed at the launch of a new Oxfam national campaign in Knutsford over the weekend.

The Canvas Lounge on King Street hosted the launch of Oxfam Get Together, a national fundraising campaign to raise money for Oxfam’s women’s projects around the world.

More than 40 participants entered the Oxfam Knutsford bake off on Sunday.

The competition judges were Lucy Fenton and Susie Lee-Kilgariff from Knutsford Bake Club.

Lucy said: “We have now learned how to pace ourselves at competitions and cake baking events; we know exactly how much to have of each cake. So many came to support Oxfam Get Together – we had to make some difficult decisions.”

Susie said: “We hope the event inspired people and encouraged them to do what they love doing, get together for Oxfam and raise life-saving funds for women’s projects around the world.”

Louise Slack, 28, from Wilmslow, won the baking competition with her ‘chess cake with chocolate swirls’.

Sophie Johnson, Oxfam fundraiser, said: “It was fantastic to see so many bakers getting together in Knutsford, and we would like to see so many more for International Women’s Day.

“The Knutsford bake off raised more than £100 and we’d like to thank Roberta Beauty redefined, Beverley Fitness Training, Coffee orange, Knutsford Bake Club and Canvas Lounge for all their support and raffle prizes.”
